The 'Chunky Seat' has been constructed primarily from locally
grown and milled Ironbark Timber (300 x 300mm slabs).
The seat ends have been made from CNC cut steel and
purposely aged (rusted) with acid and salt baths, then
sealed. The rebates at each end feature hand cut mosaic
tiles. The 'Chunky Seat' is the principal seat design
for the streetscape
and features in a number of build outs.
The 'S Seat' features recycled machine parts, integrated
planters and mosaics by local artist, Jude Roberts. 40 custom
designed LED light fittings are embedded in the planter rims.
The 'Pentagonal Seat' surrounds a relocated, mature bottle
tree and references the shape of a locally significant, exisiting
seat. The seat is set on a pentagonal deck and is highlighted
at night with 5 LED ground lights.
The 'Anti-Loitering Seat' is a conceptual artwork designed
to look like a remnant of turn-of-the-century (19th to 20th)
streetscaping. The seat highlights the change of attitudes
from a time when loitering in the street wasn't encouraged
to the current trend of shopping street renewal, inviting
people to linger. Whilst the seat doesn't actually function
it has been designed as though it could - the act of sitting
activates a mechical timer and after 10 mins the seat rotates
dislodging loiterers.
