Charleville Seat Lights
Project: Charleville Seating Node
Client: Murweh Shire Council & Queensland Health
Completed: March 2003

Materials: LEDs, Fibre Optics, Solar Panel, Electronic Componentry, Artesian Water Pipe (recycled)
Features: Low Energy Lighting, Renewable Energy (Solar)

This seating node features two lighting areas, the Milky Way seat and pedestrian refuge markers (bollards). The seat is positioned within an illustrated story about the formation of the Milky Way and features decorative steel inserts as well as a star field of low energy LEDs (approximately 50). The lights are powered by a solar panel connected to battery storage integrated into the seat pedestal. The lights are activated at dusk and stay on until late in the evening. The battery has enough capacity to power the lights for up 5 days without re-charging (in the case of persistent rainy weather). The system also includes a low-voltage cut out switch to safeguard components from attempting to work below charge. For more information about the seat and illustrated story see Charleville Seating Node.
