Carole Park Community Centre
Project: Carole Park Community Centre
Client: Carole Park Community Centre
Completed: 2001

Materials: Concrete, spraycrete, mosaic, laser cutting, timber, branding, landscaping materials, native plants
Features: Renewable Energy (Solar)

The brief for this project was to visually unite the two halves of a recently extended community centre. Improvements included pathways, gardens, decks, seating areas, a noticeboard, bin keep and the lady bird letterbox. Concepts were developed in conjunction with a community reference group, with works completed by a Community Jobs Plan team. Other community involvement for the project included planting days, school holiday workshops and community constructed mosaics inlaid in concrete pathways. Insects feature throughout the work as several significant insect-related events occured during the project : the local landscape supplier was closed down to prevent the spread of fireants and the centre was plagued with redbacks. An ant shaped brand was developed during the project and timber seating was 'branded' with trails of 'fireants'.
