Russell is an experienced public artist and designer. He has completed
a Bachelor of Art (Visual Art) with Honours and a Masters of Fine Art
[QUT]. His experience in the public realm covers corporate commissions,
state and local government commissions and community projects. Technically,
his skills include sculptural forms, concrete, mosaic work, metal and
timber and the incorporation of kinetics, LED, fibre optics and solar
technology in public works.
Russell has worked on both indoor and outdoor placemaking projects scaling
from single seating nodes to designing and overseeing the refurbishment
of an entire streetscape including one-off furniture, pedestrian fixtures,
decorative concrete finishes and community artwork.
Russell is able to deliver through all stages of a public art projects,
from concept design, through costing, time tabling, fabrication and installation
and he is excellent at working with built-environment professionals [architects,
engineers, landscape architects] and manufacturers. His skills in CAD
and 3D rendering are particularly useful in visioning work with clients
and working with outside manufacturers. Russell is experienced in working
with communities from consultation through to the design and fabrication
stages.
Russell's CV attests to a wealth of experience and professionalism, as
evidenced by repeat commissions and constancy of employment on public
art projects. Through practical experience, he well understands the issues
of durability, vandalism and weathering as they relate to public art and
design.
